mrs John L Strong Closes it’s Doors

Sad news:

“Nannette Brown, CEO and Creative Director of Mrs. John L. Strong, the luxury paper goods and accessories company, announced today that she will close the business. Mrs. Brown stated that….”investor’s failure to finance the business’ expansion plans combined with a challenging retail and economic environment, left the company with no alternative but to close its doors. Further efforts to capitalize or sell the business had failed.”

The company, founded 80-years ago, famous for providing New York’s social set and fashion glitterati with some of the world’s most beautiful social papers, marks the end of an era in New York social history. The company’s Madison Avenue atelier along with its primary retail partner, Barneys New York, will close its Mrs. John L. Strong boutiques located in New York and Beverly Hills. Mrs. John L. Strong’s Louis Boston store will also close. The company had a website and catalog operation in addition to its wholesale and corporate business. The company’s finishing facility in the Garment District will also close its operations.

“This is a sad day for Mrs. John L. Strong and a sad day for luxury as the world has become increasingly bereft of unique, hand-finished products,” said Nannette Brown. “Mrs. John L. Strong has enjoyed a rich history offering beautiful things to wonderful clients over the years.”

Hopefully, some of the staff are attempting to keep the group of suppliers and artisans together to launch a similar product. We wish them well. In the meantime, the existing stock of Mrs Strong at the goreDean stores has all been put together in the Baltimore Store and we are trying to contact customers to let them know what we have available that they have purchased in the past.
